Ritual Reflecting Ritual

The installation “Ritual Reflecting Ritual” consists of four luminous ceramic objects, an oil painting and an underglaze painting on ceramics, as well as a performance on the opening night with choreographer Naïma Mazic and composer Christoph Punzmann.

What significance do rituals have for our society: Do they help us emphasize the continuity of life, even in the midst of change? Or do they, in some way, also serve to maintain prevailing power structures and even delay the possibility of necessary changes and developments?

“Ritual Reflecting Ritual” attempts to create a ritual while using objects and light to reflect the very nature of rituals and their use itself.

A swollen light
A bright nose
A longing for each others toes

With our flashlights on we try to find
What the nose already knows

We structure time with holidays
Preserved like fruits in a jar of jam
The yellowed label says Christmas
Each year we eat a full spoon

As a hiccup kind of meaningless
We repeat and repeat and repeat

After being born
Before we go to bed
When leaving the house
While entering the stage
Until mourning what is lost
As leaving as we are
